In the aftermath of a record-setting snow storm that covered the North Texas area in 12 inches of snow, numerous trees and brush have been left broken throughout the City. The City of Duncanville is working with Duncan Disposal to provide efficient tree and brush pick-up.

In an effort to make brush pick-up as easy as possible, residential and commercial property owners are asked to do the following:

Residential Properties - small amounts of brush

  • Cut brush in 4 foot lengths
  • Brush, trunks and limbs can not exceed 6" in diameter.
  • Secure in bundles weighing fifty pounds or less.
  • Stack at curbside, with larger ends placed toward the street or curb, to a height of not more than 3 feet.

Residential Properties - large amounts of brush

  • Cut brush in 6 foot lengths
  • Trunks and limbs can not exceed 8" in diameter.
  • Weight limit is 50 pounds per branch.
  • Width of branches should be trimmed to accommodate the six foot opening of the chipper.
  • Stack loose and neatly curbside with larger ends placed toward the street.
  • Brush placed out for chipper service should be free of metal, wire, fencing material, and vines.
  • Branches and stumps exceeding 8" in diameter must be cut in 2-foot increments with a 50 pound limit per log and stacked for collection as part of regular trash service.
  • Chipper trucks can not get in alleys so all brush must be placed at curb in front of residence.
  • There's no need to call Duncan Disposal for pickup; crews will be making rounds throughout the city.

Since commercial properties do not pay a brush fee as part of their utility bill, they must contact Duncan Disposal to make pick-up/payment arrangements.

To aid in the quick removal of brush, Duncan Disposal will be using additional resources. However, due to the extensive damage throughout the City, City staff projects that it may take up to six weeks to pick-up all of the brush. The target date to have all brush cleared is March 31.

As with any natural disaster or storm that results in damage, con artists and scammers look to take advantage of those in need. Be aware of potential tree cutting scams or other door-to-door salespersons that offer services and ask for payment up front. If anyone solicits door-to-door, they must have a permit issued by the Duncanville Police Department. Be sure and to check to see if the door-to-door salesperson has a permit.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott advises consumers to check out contractors with the Better Business Bureau, get references from past customers, get more than one estimate, ask for guarantees in writing, get the salesperson’s license plate number, ask for proof of insurance and provide payment after work is performed.
